The GBI Crime Lab welcomes twenty new members to the Auditor Team.  They are now qualified to serve as internal auditors throughout the laboratory system.

Athens-Clarke police still rely on the GBI Crime Lab for scientific analysis of such evidence as DNA and bullets, so that ballistics experts can match up slugs to the guns that fired them.

GBI lab trims backlog
The most recent backlog of cases began mounting in 2003 after several positions at the GBI were frozen due to budget cuts, leaving the lab understaffed. From July 2003 to July 2004, the backlog increased from 10,740 to 28,570 cases, according to the GBI. Gov. Sonny Perdue approved filling 17 vacant positions in 2004.

$1 million sought for meth fight
Gov. Sonny Perdue on Tuesday announced that he will ask lawmakers to include an extra $1 million in the budget to double the number of agents on the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Meth Force.
