Operations Support

The Laboratory Support section is the alpha and omega of the Crime Lab. Over 60,000 evidence items are received in Lab Support for all DOFS disciplines. Evidence Receiving Technicians remove evidence from the lockboxes; enter information in the LIMS/JusticeTrax operating system. All evidence is bar coded and imaged. This begins the Chain of Custody for that evidence. All documents are scanned into the system. The evidence is then scanned to a Lab Technician/Scientist or Evidence Vault.

Most evidence is entered from 1-3 days of receipt into the Lab.

Upon completion of the analysis of the evidence by the scientific staff, the evidence is returned to Lab Support where it is stored until it is returned to the submitting agency.

In addition, the Lab Support section is responsible for the DOFS lobby receptionist/building security. Visitor badges are assigned, and security of them lie within this section.

DOFS pool vehicles are also handled in Lab Support. All staff attending training or Court are required to check out vehicles through Lab Support. The vehicles are maintained by Lab Support and the security of the vehicles/keys/gas cards lie within this section.
