Intoxilyzer Basic Class Information

 

General Health and Safety Disclaimer: If inclement weather conditions or unforeseen emergencies ultimately require cancellation of classes, their status will be designated as cancelled in the table below.  In addition, students will be notified via the email contact provided at the time of registration to alert them of any changes in class status.  We encourage students to check this website periodically for training updates.  Students who are ill or known to be contagious at the time of class are asked to reschedule their attendance for a later date.  Students who have significant health or safety concerns should understand the assumption of risks inherent to public gatherings prior to attending. While we will attempt to minimize the risk of exposure, we can not eliminate it. Students will need to provide their own PPE should they choose to utilize it.  Thanks for your cooperation in this matter.

Purpose: Students attending this course will receive training on the theory and application of breath alcohol testing utilizing the Intoxilyzer 9000. Upon successful completion of this course, the participant will be certified to perform evidential breath-alcohol tests.

When:  This 2-day course is offered 2 to 3 times per month and is typically scheduled for Mondays and Tuesdays.  The currently available training dates will be displayed on the class registration form. A tentative list of scheduled classes can be found at the bottom of this page; however we will only make 3 to 4 classes available for registration at a time.  More classes will be made available for registration as earlier classes fill.

Where:  Due to logistical constraints, all Intoxilyzer 9000 Basic Classes are delivered at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth Georgia. The Intox lab is located in room C-217.

Who:  This course is designed for eligible students seeking to be certified to conduct evidential breath alcohol tests utilizing the Intoxilyzer 9000.  Please read the registration requirements listed below to determine class eligibility.

Note: Individuals currently possessing an Intoxilyzer 9000 permit are likely eligible to attend the 4 hour Intoxilyzer 9000 Recertification class to renew their permit.  For details and eligibility requirements, please click on the following link (here)

How: In order to register for the Intoxilyzer 9000 Basic Class all students must complete the Class Registration Form.  This form should be filled out as completely as possible.  Failure to provide the requested information may result in an inability to process your registration request. Upon completion of this form, an acknowledgement of receipt will be automatically generated. This is not a confirmation of acceptance.  An email confirmation will be sent to the registration contact as soon as the request is reviewed and accepted.  To find the link to the Registration Form, please review the Registration Requirements listed below. The link to the registration form will be display with the following text, "Click here for registration for the  Intoxilyzer 9000 Basic class".

PLEASE NOTE:  Notification of any unexpected class cancellations will be emailed to the contact email on the registration request and posted on this page in this location.

Registration Requirements for the Intoxilyzer 9000 Basic Course:

  • Due to limited availability we will accept no more than four people from the same agency in the same class.
  • Each person attending must be 20 YEARS OF AGE or older.
  • Class attendance is limited to law enforcement personnel.
  • Law enforcement personnel associated with Federal agencies and civilian contractors will be charged a $100 per student registration fee due on or before the requested class date.
  • Classes have a 40 student capacity and can fill up 3 to 4 months in advance.
  • Agency ORI numbers are required to authenticate your registration request.
  • Registration is handled through this website.
  • A notification of your enrollment status should be sent electronically to your email address within 10 business days of your request.  If you do not receive a confirmation of you enrollment request then you are not registered for the Basic Class.  If you do not receive a response within 30 days, contact us.
  • A list of available classes will appear on the registration form at the link above.
  • Students should bring a current copy of the Intoxilyzer 9000 Operator's Basic Training Manual to class. The link to the current manual can be found below.

NOTE: If you do not receive a confirmation email from the Division of Forensic Sciences then you have not been accepted into a Basic Class. It may take up to 3 to 4 weeks to receive your confirmation email depending on the volume of requests we are currently processing. We thank you for your patience.

Information for Registered Students:

  • Class will begin at 8AM. Students should arrive before 8AM.

  • The class is held in room C-217 at GPSTC in Forsyth, GA.

  • All registered students will fill out official registration paperwork the day of class.

  • To successfully complete the course, each person must obtain a passing grade of 80 or higher.

  • Walk-in students will not be accepted without approval from the Implied Consent Manager.

NOTE: If you are looking for information regarding the Intoxilyzer 9000 Transition Class, please be aware that we are no longer offering this course. All Intoxilyzer 5000 permit holders must attend the Intoxilyzer 9000 Basic Class to obtain a valid operator's permit. If you possess an active Intoxilyzer 9000 permit or one that has been expired for less than one year, then you are eligible to attend the Intoxilyzer 9000 Refresher/Recertification class to renew your permit.
